    ACUPUNCTURE and Oriental medicine:

Acupuncture is a form of Oriental Medicine that involves the insertion of very fine thread-like needles just under the skin at specific points (acu-points) over the surface of the body. These acu-points act as valves that control the body’s energy (called Qi/chee) to restore normal circulation, relieve pain and promote normal body functions (homeostasis).

The acu-points are organized into 14 main channels or meridians that control Qi throughout the body. Any pain or malfunction within the body can be viewed in simple terms as either an excess or deficiency of Qi. Through the use of acupuncture, the normal flow and balance of Qi is restored.

Non-needle techniques can also be used. Although usually not as fast, many non-acupuncture methods can be implemented with or without needling. Non-acupuncture treatments include: tuina (Chinese medical massage), far-infrared radiation (specialized heat application), cupping (application of negative pressure at specific acu-points) and qi gong (breathing and moving exercises), to name a few.
